"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28 NIV
It is with this spirit that Cross Schools will meet the challenge of providing an outstanding Christ-centered, college-preparatory education experience for our families in the 2020-2021 school year. We find ourselves to be in energetic agreement with the American Academy of Pediatrics who "strongly advocate that all policy considerations for the coming school year should start with the goal of having students physically present in school." We also clearly see as nonnegotiable the safety, health, and well-being of our Cross Schools community.
Cross Schools will utilize a school plan for the coming year that recognizes the possibility of four different scenarios that can be enacted in response to the level of concern associated with the presence of the COVID-19 virus. The scenarios are a reflection of the "dimmer-switch" approach that most in education are embracing: there is a great degree of middle ground between the choices of full-distance learning and the full population on campus with no precautions.
If we were to hypothetically open the school tomorrow, we would be in Scenario 2. Prominent features of Scenario 2 include:
- Full student population on campus
- Social distancing of all students while on campus including classes/lunch/PE
- Masks indoors for all faculty/staff and students in grades 3-9
- All community members asked to complete health self-survey each morning
- Random temperature checks throughout the day
It is important to remember that this is a living document. It can, and likely will undergo changes as the most up-to-date data and research comes to us. It is also of vital importance to understand that keeping our children and the school as healthy as possible is going to be a comprehensive team effort between the home and the school.
As we get closer to our opening dates, we will continue to be in frequent communication with our families as we prepare for the opening of the school year.
